WCTV Streaming Sunspot Outages: What to Know

At Cirrinity, we like to keep our customers informed, especially when nature plays a role in your TV experience. From October 1–8, 2025, some users may experience WCTV streaming sunspot outages, short interruptions caused by solar interference with satellite signals.

What Are Sunspots, and Why Do They Affect Streaming?

Sunspots, in this context, refer to a natural event where solar radiation temporarily disrupts communication with satellites. This happens when the sun aligns directly behind a satellite used to transmit TV signals, which causes interference—often called a sun outage.

When this occurs, you might notice:

  • Pixelation or frozen video
  • Brief loss of audio
  • Channel dropouts lasting 5–15 minutes

These outages are short-lived and happen around the spring and fall equinoxes.

How WCTV Streaming Is Affected

Even if you’re watching over a fast internet connection, the origin of many channels is satellite-based. That means if there’s interference at the satellite level, it can still impact your WCTV streaming briefly, especially during sunspot activity.

This year’s WCTV streaming sunspot outages are expected between:
📅 October 1–8, 2025
9:00 AM to 4:00 PM CT

What to Do If Streaming Issues Continue

Don’t worry, these interruptions usually resolve quickly. But if you notice any issues lasting longer than 15 minutes or affecting other services, please contact us right away.
